The Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa and the Sahel (UNOWAS), Leonardo Santos Simao, has concluded a two-day pre-election visit to Ghana.
During his visit, Simao met with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo to discuss preparations for the upcoming December polls.
The discussions focused on ensuring a peaceful and transparent electoral process, with Simao expressing the UN’s support for Ghana’s democratic endeavors.
Simao reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting Ghana in conducting free, fair, and credible elections, emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles and respecting human rights throughout the electoral cycle.
The visit also included consultations with electoral authorities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders involved in Ghana’s electoral process.
