Sierra Leone’s Acting Chief Justice, Nicholas Browne Marke, has reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to eliminating delays in justice delivery through recent reforms.
During a meeting with lawyers and paralegals, Justice Marke emphasized the significance of the newly enacted Criminal Procedure Act of 2024, which replaces the outdated 1965 legislation.
The Act introduces measures to streamline legal proceedings, including a requirement for all case documents to be submitted at the Magistrate Court before trials commence.
Justice Marke expressed optimism that these reforms would lead to swifter case resolutions, with some trials concluding in just days under the new framework.
The judiciary’s focus, he noted, is on ensuring transparency and efficiency in the justice system.
