The Gambian government has intensified efforts to execute the recommendations of the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission (TRRC), reaffirming its dedication to transitional justice and national healing.
To date, 16 recommendations have been fully implemented, while over 190 out of 263 are actively in progress. This renewed momentum reflects the government’s determination to address past human rights violations and foster accountability.
The initiative aligns with the recent approval by ECOWAS of a special tribunal to prosecute alleged perpetrators of grave crimes, an effort strongly championed by President Adama Barrow in discussions with regional leaders.
“This marks a crucial step in delivering justice and promoting reconciliation,” stated a government spokesperson.
The implementation progress underscores the administration’s commitment to restoring public trust and strengthening democratic governance.
