AES Member States Approve Major Development Initiatives

The Council of Ministers of Mali convened on Wednesday to ratify the outcomes of the ministerial meeting of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), held on January 16 in Bamako.

Ministers from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, including those overseeing Economy, Finance, and Transport, gathered to adopt a roadmap aimed at boosting commercial activities among AES member states.

Key initiatives include the creation of a Regional Investment Bank, supported by a confederal levy on imports outside the WAEMU bloc, to fund strategic projects.

In infrastructure, the AES has approved an ambitious agenda, including the construction of a 1,446 km Niamey-Bamako highway and the development of a railway roadmap.

Additionally, a plan to cultivate two million hectares for agricultural and livestock production was endorsed and establishment of a confederal airline, among others.
