The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has committed more than $800 million to tackle the escalating mpox outbreak across the continent, surpassing its initial target of $600 million.
Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC, announced the pledge on Thursday, emphasizing the urgency of the situation. The outbreak, declared a global health emergency in mid-August, began spreading from the Democratic Republic of Congo to neighboring countries, raising alarms across the region.
This substantial funding aims to strengthen response efforts and curb the spread of the new mpox strain.
