The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced a loan of over $500 million to support four key government programs in Niger in 2025.
The announcement was made in Niamey during a visit by Lamin Barroco, AfDB’s Director General for the West Africa region, alongside Nigerien government officials.
The first and largest portion of the funding, approximately $284.96 million (56% of the total loan), is designated for a Budget Support Program for the Promotion of Basic Services. This initiative aims to strengthen access to essential services across the country.
The second portion, amounting to $119.84 million, will support the Project to Strengthen the Supply of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Zinder and Mirriah and their surrounding villages (PREPA-Zinder Mirriah, Phase I).
This initiative focuses on enhancing water and sanitation infrastructure.
Approximately $93.21 million will be allocated to the Integrated Program for the Development of Agripreneurship for Youth in Niger, a project that aims to bolster entrepreneurship among young people in the agricultural sector, fostering economic growth and youth employment.
Nearly $13.31 million will be dedicated to the African Disaster Risk Management Financing Program (ADRIFi-Niger, Phase II), which is focused on building resilience against disasters and enhancing risk management capabilities.
