African Union Team Evaluates Sierra Leone’s Readiness for Peacekeeping Mission

A delegation from the African Union (AU) has arrived in Sierra Leone to assess the country’s preparedness for its participation in the sixth Formed Police Unit (FPU-6) peacekeeping mission.

The evaluation is a critical step before the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) deploys to the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).

On Monday, November 12, 2024, the AU team, led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Emmanuel Lithakong Ntpaba, met with Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu. During the meeting, ACP Ntpaba outlined a two-phase assessment process to evaluate both individual qualifications and the operational readiness of the FPU unit.

The first phase focuses on individual officers’ qualifications, while the second phase examines the unit’s overall preparedness for deployment, ensuring their capacity to perform effectively in Somalia.
