Ghana has inaugurated its 9th Parliament, re-electing Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker.
A veteran of Ghanaian politics and the nation’s longest-serving legislator, Bagbin pledged to draw on his extensive experience to steer the new Parliament through a polarized political landscape.
In his acceptance speech, Bagbin emphasized unity, collaboration, and the vital role of Parliament as a “bulwark of democracy.
” Reflecting on his leadership of the 8th Parliament, he highlighted the challenges and lessons that have shaped his approach to fostering efficiency and effectiveness.
“Honorable Members of Parliament-elect, I am very grateful for the privilege and confidence you have reposed in me to be Speaker and to help this honorable House once more,” Bagbin said, appealing for trust and cooperation among members.
Bagbin’s leadership is expected to play a critical role in maintaining balance and ensuring parliamentary progress as Ghana continues to navigate its dynamic political environment.
