At least 30 people have been killed and several others injured in a series of attacks by armed gangs on farmers and local communities in central Nigeria’s Benue State.
Justine Shaku, chairman of the affected area, revealed that hundreds of gunmen stormed communities in Katrine Ala on Monday, opening fire on farmers and residents.
The attacks, which began on Saturday, left at least 30 people dead and many others injured.
According to Shaku, the gunmen targeted residents in their farms and homes, shooting indiscriminately.
He suggested that the attackers appeared to be foreigners but could not provide further details.
The reasons behind these coordinated attacks remain unclear. Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the motive and identify those responsible.
The attacks underline the persistent security challenges faced by communities in Benue State.
