Armed Forces Clash with Terrorists in Mali’s Kidal Region

An armed terrorist group launched an attack on the Malian armed forces in the Kidal region near the Algerian border on Thursday.

According to a statement by the general staff of the army, the terrorists suffered heavy losses.

However, the statement did not specify the number of casualties.

The army is closely monitoring the situation and has promised to provide more detailed information as it becomes available.

This attack follows the Malian army’s announcement on July 22 that it had taken control of the town of In-Afarak in the Kidal region as part of an operation to defend the national territory and protect the people and their property.

For more than a decade, Mali has been grappling with terrorist attacks and community conflicts.

The armed forces have been working to regain control of the entire territory since the coup in May 2021.

The peace agreement signed in 2015 by the government and rebel groups in the north, under the auspices of the UN, has since collapsed, shifting focus towards a “nationalization” of peace and conciliation efforts among Malians.
