The January 12, 2025, arrest of prominent Togolese cyber-activist Sitsopé Sokpor, known as “Affectio,” has ignited widespread criticism from political leaders and human rights organizations.
Sokpor’s detention, described by some as resembling a kidnapping, involved allegations that authorities used a covert operation to apprehend him.
Initially held at the national gendarmerie headquarters in Djidjolé, Lomé, Sokpor appeared before an investigating judge on January 14, intensifying calls for transparency in the legal proceedings.
Advocates argue that Sokpor’s case underscores broader concerns about freedom of expression and the treatment of dissenting voices in Togo, urging authorities to ensure justice and uphold democratic principles.
