AU Launches Ambitious Reform Agenda to Transform Regional Operations

Leaders from African Union (AU) member states have convened in Kenya to discuss strategies to enhance financial independence and operational efficiency across the continent.

The high-level meeting, held at State House in Nairobi, Kenya, brought together prominent African leaders, including Comorian President Azali Assoumani, Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro El Mokhtar Sissoco Embaló, Ethiopian representative Taye Selassie, and Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama. AU Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat is also participated in the discussions.

During the opening session of a retreat, Kenyan President William Ruto unveiled an ambitious reform agenda for the AU.

Speaking at the opening session of a retreat, the President Ruto stated thay through this high-level dialogue, the AU will become more effective, robust, financially independent, and fit for purpose to better meet the needs of the continent.

The reform initiative is part of the AU’s broader transformation strategy, aimed at strengthening its autonomy and increasing its influence on the global stage.
