The Beninese government summoned the Ambassador of Burkina Faso, David Kabre, on Tuesday in response to allegations made by Burkinabe Transitional President Ibrahim Traoré. Kabre, who resides in Accra, was received by Beninese Foreign Affairs Minister Olushegun Adjadi Bakari.
The meeting was prompted by claims from President Traoré that Benin is hosting French military bases aimed at destabilizing Burkina Faso. Cotonou has strongly refuted these accusations.
During their discussion, Minister Bakari and Ambassador Kabre focused primarily on addressing the allegations made by President Traoré.
Although details of the diplomatic meeting remain sparse, both France and Côte d’Ivoire have denied the accusations. France stated that its military bases are located only in Chad, Senegal, Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, and Djibouti.
