The Beninese opposition party Les Démocrates has condemned what it calls a “media cabal” aimed at tarnishing its leadership’s reputation.
In a press release on Monday, the party accused the media of a defamation campaign following its call for President Patrice Talon to address the public’s concerns over the arrest of his former collaborators.
The controversy stems from two articles by Le Béninois Libéré accusing Les Démocrates officials of receiving bribes from Olivier Boko, a close associate of President Talon.
The party has announced plans for legal action, refuting the claims as distractions from the government’s internal issues.
Les Démocrates reiterated its unity and commitment to democratic values, urging President Talon to uphold these principles and engage in national political dialogue.
The party also thanked its supporters and pledged to defend Benin’s democratic progress.
