British High Commissioner Expresses Concern Over Potential Unrest in Ghana’s 2024 Elections

The British High Commissioner to Ghana, has voiced concerns over the potential for unrest in Ghana’s upcoming 2024 elections.

Speaking at the King’s Birthday celebration in Accra on Thursday, Harriet Thompson noted that recent discussions with Ghanaian leaders and citizens have highlighted growing fears about the possibility of disruptions, contrasting with the country’s traditionally peaceful elections.

She urged Ghanaian politicians and community influencers to promote peaceful and transparent elections, emphasizing the role they play in ensuring a credible and inclusive process.

Ms. Thompson also reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to supporting Ghana’s democratic values.

This commitment includes funding independent observers and deploying British High Commission staff nationwide to oversee electoral activities.

“The UK cares so deeply about Ghana’s democracy and future success because of the democratic values that we share,” she stated, adding that stability in both nations is a mutual goal.
