Burkina Faso’s transitional government has called for continued vigilance following the withdrawal of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) from ECOWAS, emphasizing that “other strings” remain to be cut.
Speaking before a large crowd at Place de la Nation in Ouagadougou, Prime Minister Apollinaire Kyélem de Tambèla delivered a message from President Ibrahim Traoré, urging citizens to remain mobilized and committed to the cause.
The rally, organized by the National Coordination of Citizen Watch Associations (CNAVC), featured hundreds of participants waving the flags of the three AES nations—Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger—alongside Russian flags.
A symbolic “funeral” for ECOWAS was staged, with a coffin draped in the French flag, underscoring the movement’s rejection of external influence.
The event’s official nature was reinforced by the presence of key figures, including Bassolma Bazié, president of the National Commission of the AES.
