The Burkinabe government has renewed the Patriotic Support Fund (FSP) for another one-year period, citing its crucial role in supporting civilian auxiliaries of the army engaged in the fight against armed terrorist groups.
Minister Nacanabo emphasized that an evaluation of the fund showed its significant impact in financing the care and equipment of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP), necessitating its continuation and strengthening.
Established in 2022, the FSP has proven to be a key fundraising mechanism in Burkina Faso’s battle against terrorism. In 2024 alone, over 175 billion CFA francs were mobilized as of December 31.
Burkina Faso has been grappling with a jihadist insurgency for a decade, and authorities remain committed to enhancing national security efforts through sustained funding.
