Chadian Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has enacted a significant reorganization within the N’Djamena army, replacing senior officials from the army, gendarmerie, and national police through a series of decrees.
General Abakar Abdelkerim Daoud remains as head of the army general staff, a position he has held since 2020, but his deputy, General Ali Ahmat Akhabach, has been promoted to Minister of Public Security. General Mahamat Souleymane Ali has been appointed as the new deputy. Additionally, the army is now under the leadership of General Djontan Marcel Hoinanti, marking a notable change.
The National Police has also undergone a shake-up, with Tougoud Digo Maidé taking over from Brahim Ahmat Gorou as police controller general. New deputies, Mahamat Abdelkadre Oumar and Bourma Hemci Tchougoubou, have been appointed.
In the National Gendarmerie, General Saleh Touma Houno has been named the new head, while the National and Nomadic Guard of Chad now sees General Issaka Koty Yacoub in command, with Colonel Bichara Issaka Chiguer as second in command.
This reorganization aims to strengthen the effectiveness of Chad’s security forces in addressing the country’s mounting security challenges.
