The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has dismissed accusations against Nigeria, emphasizing its stabilizing role in combating terrorism through the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).
In a statement obtained by APA, ECOWAS underlined Nigeria’s pivotal contributions to regional peace and security. “The recent successes recorded by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), led by Nigeria, demonstrate the country’s commitment to peace and security throughout the region,” the statement affirmed.
The organization highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding efforts to foster stability not just in West Africa but across the African continent, rejecting allegations that it could act as a state sponsor of terrorism.
ECOWAS also called for calm, urging regional states to promote dialogue and avoid unsubstantiated accusations.
The response follows remarks made by Niger’s military leader, General Abdourahamane Tiani, in an interview with Télé Sahel, accusing Nigeria of collaborating with France to undermine Niger.
The Nigerian government has firmly denied the claims, labeling them as “unfounded allegations.”
