The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is considering abolishing the 90-day stay permit for citizens within the region.
This proposal was discussed during the 8th Annual ECOWAS Immigration Forum, hosted for the first time by The Gambia.
The two-day roundtable, under the theme “Acceleration of the Deployment of the ECOWAS National Biometric Identity Card (ENBIC) and the Abolishing of the 90 Days Stay Limit/Resident Permits for Community Citizens,” aimed to foster dialogue on migration-related issues, including the removal of stay limits.
Gambia’s Director General of Immigration, Bai Ebrima Mboob, highlighted that the forum provided an opportunity to address key migration challenges and find solutions.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kemi Nanna Nandap, Chairperson of the Heads of Immigration Meeting, emphasized that ECOWAS initiatives are focused on progressively implementing the rights of entry, residence, and establishment for citizens across member states.
