Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Nigerian Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from a UK prison after serving part of her sentence.
Sources confirmed her return to Nigeria on Tuesday, where she is now residing in Abuja.
In May 2023, Beatrice, her husband, and Dr. Obinna Obeta were sentenced by a UK court for their involvement in a high-profile organ harvesting case. The trio conspired to bring a Nigerian man to the UK to harvest his organs for a transplant, allegedly to aid their daughter, who suffers from a severe kidney condition.
The case sparked widespread media attention and raised global ethical and legal concerns over organ trafficking.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu remains in a UK prison, serving a nine-year sentence, while his wife’s five-year sentence has now been served.
