Four Ghanaian Students Arrested in U.S. for Forged Admission Documents

Four Ghanaian students have been arrested in the United States for allegedly submitting forged high school transcripts to secure admission to Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

The investigation began on August 23, when the Vice Provost of Admissions and Financial Aid at Lehigh raised concerns over the legitimacy of a transcript submitted by one applicant.

Further review revealed discrepancies in the students’ documents, including unusual markings, formatting issues, and spelling errors, leading to the revocation of their admissions.

The students Otis Opoku, Evans Oppong, Cyrilstan Nomobon Sowah-Nai, and Henry Dabuo allegedly submitted inflated grades to secure financial aid packages, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The individuals were arraigned at Magisterial District Court on Monday, September 9, 2024, facing charges of forgery and related offenses.

They are currently held on $100,000 bail each and are awaiting preliminary hearings scheduled for September 24, 2024.
