Gambian Government Rejects Survey Claiming 77% Say Country Is on Wrong Path

The Gambian government has rejected the findings of a recent Afrobarometer survey that reported 77% of citizens believe the nation is heading in the “wrong direction.”

In a statement issued on Thursday, the government acknowledged the value of opinion polls but argued that the results reflect subjective perceptions rather than an objective evaluation of public policy impacts.

The statement criticized the survey’s methodology, suggesting its results may be influenced by misinformation and biased question framing.

Despite the survey’s findings, the government emphasized notable achievements, including nearly 1,000 kilometers of new roads and significant investments in health, education, and agriculture aimed at improving citizens’ well-being.

It also highlighted projected economic growth of 5.8% in 2024, supported by tourism recovery, declining inflation, and increased foreign direct investment since 2017.

The government reiterated its commitment to addressing national challenges and enhancing living standards through reforms in key sectors such as energy and agriculture.
