Ghana Elects First Female Vice President in Historic NDC Victory

Ghana has made history with the election of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the country’s first female Vice President-elect.

Running alongside President-elect John Dramani Mahama, she will assume office following the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s triumph in the 2024 elections.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s groundbreaking achievement is a significant milestone for gender representation in Ghanaian politics and has been widely celebrated as a beacon of hope for women and girls across the nation and the African continent.

Born in Cape Coast in Ghana’s Central Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is a distinguished academic and advocate for education and women’s empowerment.

A trailblazer in her field, she became the first female Vice Chancellor of a public university in Ghana when she was appointed to lead the University of Cape Coast in 2008.

Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, as well as a Master’s and Doctorate in English Literature from York University in Canada.

Her career is marked by excellence in teaching, research, and leadership, making her an exemplary figure for future generations.
