The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has clarified that no cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) have been registered in the country as of 2024.
This response follows a recent report by the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control (ECOWAS-RCSDC), which included Ghana among countries with confirmed cases.
Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, Director of Public Health at GHS, confirmed that there are currently no Mpox cases in Accra, attributing the earlier report to data misrepresentation.
The ECOWAS-RCSDC had reported 44 confirmed cases and one death across the sub-region, listing Ghana alongside Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Liberia.
The African continent has faced significant challenges in controlling the spread of Mpox, with a surge in cases and deaths in 2024.
