Ghana Police Hunt After NPP-NDC Clash in Accra

The Ghana Police Service has initiated a manhunt for individuals involved in a violent clash between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Mamobi, a suburb of Accra, which left nine people injured.

The altercation occurred on Sunday, October 13, 2024, following a routine political campaign walk by both parties. Tensions flared when a dispute arose over which group would pass through a specific area first.

Eyewitnesses reported that NDC motorbike riders confronted NPP supporters, leading to a heated verbal exchange that quickly escalated into violence. One person reportedly pulled out a gun, shooting indiscriminately, resulting in two people being shot.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed in a statement that seven of the injured victims have been treated and discharged, while two remain hospitalized. This incident has raised concerns about rising tensions between political parties as the general election on December 7, 2024, approaches.

Authorities are urging calm and have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
