Ghana has called on member countries of the Gulf of Guinea Commission to fulfill their financial obligations to enable the secretariat to deliver on its mandate effectively.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, made these remarks during the Thirteenth Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of the Gulf of Guinea Commission, currently being held in Accra.
The session is themed “Building a Safe, Secure, and Prosperous Gulf of Guinea for Sustainable Development.”
Botchwey emphasized the importance of financial contributions from member states to ensure the Commission’s operations and initiatives can be successfully implemented.
She noted that timely and adequate funding is crucial for addressing the security, economic, and environmental challenges facing the Gulf of Guinea region.
The Minister’s appeal comes at a critical time when the Gulf of Guinea is grappling with issues such as piracy, illegal fishing, and environmental degradation, which require coordinated efforts and sufficient resources to tackle effectively.
