As the 2024 mid-year budget review approaches, Members of Parliament in Ghana have been vocal about their expectations. Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam is set to address the House of Parliament later today to fulfill his constitutional mandate.
In his maiden mid-year budget review, Dr. Adam is expected to provide detailed insights into Ghana’s economic and fiscal performance during the first half of the year.
His presentation will cover growth measures, revenue and expenditure performance, financing, debt sustainability, and updates on the IMF-supported Post Covid-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG).
The budget will highlight proposed policies aimed at fostering growth, with a particular focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the implementation status of key government programs.
Public anticipation is high, especially among the business community, which is urging the government to maintain fiscal discipline to consolidate the marginal gains achieved under the stringent supervision of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
There are calls for the waiver of certain ‘nuisance’ taxes, such as the COVID-19 levy and the E-Levy, and for the restoration of road tolls to support persons with disabilities who lost their jobs following the tolls’ abolishment in 2022.
As the Finance Minister prepares to deliver his budget review, the nation awaits concrete measures that will address these concerns and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
