Ghana’s Opposition NDC Holds Nationwide Protests Over Alleged Voter Roll Irregularities

Ghana’s main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), On Tuesday, organized nationwide protests to address alleged irregularities in the voter roll, calling for an independent forensic audit to ensure free and fair elections.

As the nation prepares for the December 7 polls to elect a successor to President Nana Akufo-Addo, the NDC claims that the electoral commission has illegally transferred voters to different polling stations without their consent, raising concerns about the integrity of the voter register.

The upcoming election will see former President John Dramani Mahama of the NDC face off against Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Thousands of NDC supporters, dressed in red and black, marched through the streets of Accra, playing reggae and campaign songs, and calling on international organizations, Ghana’s peace council, and religious and civil society groups to intervene.

Protest leaders submitted petitions to both parliament and the electoral commission in Accra, while similar demonstrations took place across the country’s 15 other regions, according to local reports.
