Ghana’s Population Expected to Reach 52.47 Million by 2050

Ghana’s population has exceeded 33 million and is projected to continue growing significantly in the coming decades.

A latest data released by the Ghana Statistical Service, titled “Population Projections 2021 – 2050,” combines information from the 2021 Population and Housing Census with historical data to outline future demographic trends.

The projections indicate a steady increase, with Ghana’s population expected to reach 33 million by the end of 2024 and surpass 44.7 million by 2040.

By 2050, the population is projected to reach approximately 52.47 million, reflecting a significant rise from current figures.

Despite these notable increases, the report highlights a decreasing trend in population growth rates over the next 25 years.

This suggests a gradual slowing down of population expansion compared to previous decades, influenced by factors such as fertility rates, mortality rates, and demographic shifts.

The findings from the “Population Projections 2021 – 2050” report stakeholders said, provides valuable insights for policymakers, planners in the country.

They stressed for the importance of sustainable development strategies to accommodate future demographic changes while ensuring economic stability and social welfare for all segments of the population.
