Ghana’s President Mahama Demands Justice for Victims of 2005 Gambia Massacre

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has renewed calls for justice for the victims of the 2005 Gambia Massacre, in which approximately 56 West African migrants, predominantly Ghanaians, were killed under the orders of former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.

During his recent visit to The Gambia, President Mahama urged the international community to provide compensation to the victims’ families and ensure accountability for those responsible for the atrocity.

He emphasized the significance of truth and reconciliation efforts in addressing past human rights abuses and underscored that achieving justice for the massacre victims remains a critical priority.

Mahama’s appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to hold Jammeh accountable for crimes committed during his rule, with human rights groups and regional bodies advocating for justice and reparations.

The call for justice has resonated with activists and families of the victims, who continue to demand accountability and closure nearly two decades after the tragic incident.
