Guinean Transitional Government Dissolves Over 50 Political Parties

Guinea’s transitional government dissolved more than fifty political parties and suspended others for three months following a comprehensive evaluation by the Ministry of Territorial Administration.

About 70 parties, including those of former President Alpha Condé and opposition leader Cellou Dalein Diallo, were placed under surveillance.

The Ministry On Tuesday stated that the action was part of a broader effort to regulate Guinea’s political landscape and ensure parties comply with national requirements for registration, organization, and governance.

Authorities claim that many parties had not fulfilled basic criteria, such as holding regular congresses, establishing legitimate leadership structures, and maintaining a stable political presence.

However, the timing and scope of the crackdown have raised concerns among political groups, who view it as a possible move to limit opposition influence ahead of any potential electoral process under the transitional government.

In response, affected parties are mobilizing to challenge the decision legally, citing fears of political repression.
