Guinean Transitional Government to Drastically Reduce Number of Political Parties

The Guinean transitional government has announced plans to clean up the country’s political landscape by drastically reducing the number of political parties.

This decision follows an evaluation process which, according to the transitional authorities, revealed that several political groups do not meet the standards defined by the charter of political parties.

The transitional government asserts that this measure is necessary to ensure a more organized and functional political system. However, the evaluation report has sparked controversy among political coalitions.

These groups suspect that the government may use the report as a pretext to revoke the approvals of political parties that are opposed to the current management of the transition by the military.

Critics argue that the move could be an attempt to suppress dissent and consolidate power under the transitional authorities.

They contend that the criteria for evaluation might be biased against opposition groups, thereby undermining democratic principles and political plurality in Guinea.
