Gunmen Kill Seven and Kidnap 100 in Nigeria’s Katsina State

Gunmen attacked a rural community in Nigeria’s northwestern Katsina state, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people and the kidnapping of around 100 others.

According to residents and police sources on Sunday the assailants, identified as armed gangs known locally as bandits, arrived on motorbikes and began shooting indiscriminately in Maidabino village, Danmusa local government area.

This prompted resident to flee in panic.

Katsina state police spokesperson Abubakar Aliyu Sadiq confirmed the attack and the fatalities but did not disclose whether anyone was still missing.

He assured that police were actively investigating the incident, which is part of a disturbing trend of banditry in the region.

These groups frequently raid communities in the northwest, targeting residents, students, and motorists for ransom, underscoring the persistent security challenges faced by both local populations and authorities.
