The Ghana Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has announced its intention to conduct presidential debates for the leading political candidates in the upcoming December 2024 elections.
This decision comes in response to widespread calls for the institute to organize a debate among the top contenders in these crucial polls.
Despite the enthusiasm, former President John Dramani Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the largest opposition party, has expressed disinterest in debating the ruling party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Nevertheless, the IEA says it remains committed to planning and hosting the national debate, aiming to provide a platform for the candidates to present their visions and policies to the electorate.
