Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara has expressed his readiness to continue serving as Côte d’Ivoire’s leader, though his party has yet to make an official decision on its candidate for the upcoming 2025 presidential election.
Speaking on Thursday, the 83-year-old head of state emphasized his commitment to the nation but noted that the ruling party’s formal nomination process remains ongoing.
Ouattara, who was re-elected in 2020 for a controversial third term, has previously hinted at stepping down, contingent on political stability and his longtime rivals agreeing to withdraw from politics.
In September, the ruling party openly endorsed a potential candidacy by Ouattara, demonstrating strong internal support for his leadership. However, neither an official nomination nor acceptance has been finalized.
The 2025 election, scheduled for October, is expected to be a pivotal moment for Côte d’Ivoire, as the country navigates its future political landscape.
