The Gambia Aviation Authority (GAA), in collaboration with Overland Airways, has officially launched a direct flight route connecting Lagos, Nigeria, to Banjul, The Gambia.
The inauguration ceremony, held over the weekend at Banjul International Airport, marks a significant milestone in advancing air travel and fostering economic integration across West Africa.
This initiative aligns with the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) agenda, which seeks to enhance regional collaboration, promote sustainable transport systems, and drive economic growth across the continent.
The new Lagos-Banjul route is set to revolutionize travel and trade in the region by strengthening connections and creating new opportunities for economic cooperation across Africa.
Gambia’s Minister of Transport, Works, and Infrastructure, Ebrima Sillah, and Overland Airways CEO, Edward Boyo, praised the development as a major step toward improving air connectivity, fostering regional unity, and boosting economic prosperity.
Nfansu Bojang, Director General of the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, highlighted the vast potential for growth in Africa’s aviation industry, emphasizing its critical role in driving the continent’s development.
