The Association of Female Lawyers in Liberia has called for unified action to address the escalating crisis of domestic violence, which they describe as a significant obstacle to the nation’s development.
In a statement referencing 2023 statistics, the group revealed over 3,200 reported cases of gender-based violence, with women accounting for 93% of survivors.
The lawyers stressed the urgent need for protective measures to safeguard women and children, emphasizing that tackling this issue is essential for Liberia’s progress.
They also urged stakeholders, including government and civil society, to prioritize legal, social, and economic interventions to curb the growing trend.
