The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has launched an investigation into allegations of off-budget spending by the government, with the unaccounted funds estimated at around $15 million.
The inquiry follows concerns raised by Fonati Koffa, Speaker of the House of Representatives, during a parliamentary session on Tuesday.
Koffa strongly criticized the government for the unexplained expenditure, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in public financial management.
He called for substantial reforms to Liberia’s Public Financial Management Law to prevent future off-budget expenditures and ensure stricter oversight of government spending.
This investigation comes at a time when Liberia faces growing public pressure for better governance and financial accountability, with concerns that off-budget spending undermines trust in the government’s ability to manage the country’s resources responsibly.
The outcome of the LACC investigation will likely play a significant role in shaping future fiscal policies and reform efforts in Liberia.
