Mali Severs Diplomatic Ties with Ukraine Over Alleged Subversive Statements

The Malian Transitional authorities have severed diplomatic relations with Ukraine following statements by senior Ukrainian officials, which Mali deemed “subversive.

Ukrainian military intelligence spokesman Andriy Yusov recently claimed Ukraine’s involvement in an attack on Malian Defense and Security Forces in Tinzaouatène, resulting in loss of life and material damage.

The transitional government condemned these statements as treacherous and barbaric.

The Ukrainian ambassador to Senegal, Yurii Pyvovarov, also supported these statements, which Mali interpreted as Ukrainian support for international terrorism.

Mali expressed astonishment at the lack of denial or condemnation from Ukraine and denounced these actions as violations of international law and Malian sovereignty.

In response, Mali has taken drastic measures, including the immediate severance of diplomatic relations and referring Yusov and Pyvovarov to judicial authorities for “acts of terrorism and glorification of terrorism.

Mali also suggested preventive measures to avoid destabilization from states hosting Ukrainian embassies and plans to alert international bodies about this issue.

Regional protests against Ukraine are growing, with Senegal and Burkina Faso expressing their discontent.

It calls on the international community to condemn Ukrainian support for terrorism and take concrete measures to combat it. Previously, Mali and Ukraine had significant bilateral trade, which now faces uncertainty due to the diplomatic fallout.
