Konaté’s recent disappearance has caused considerable alarm, and the union initially called for a nationwide strike, pressing authorities for information on his whereabouts.
In the recording, Konaté allegedly calls for actions that authorities have interpreted as a threat to the stability of Mali, adding a layer of tension in a region already grappling with security issues.
Following the announcement of the investigation, the union suspended its strike to avoid further destabilizing the prison system but has urged authorities to conduct a transparent investigation to determine Konaté’s status and any involvement in the alleged plot.
