Mysterious Outbreak Linked to Malaria Claims Over 80 Lives in DRC

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are investigating a mysterious outbreak that has claimed more than 80 lives in the southwestern Panzi health zone.

Medical teams have been deployed to the region to identify the exact cause of the illness.

According to the Africa CDC, malaria appears to be the most likely cause, as many victims exhibited flu-like symptoms such as fever, headaches, breathing difficulties, and anemia.

Testing of the majority of samples confirmed malaria, a mosquito-borne disease endemic to the region.
Despite this, health experts are not ruling out other factors, especially after the death of a male patient who displayed symptoms consistent with hemorrhagic fever.

Samples from this patient have been sent to Kinshasa for further analysis, with results expected within a week.

Concerns are growing as health officials work urgently to contain the outbreak and determine if additional causes are contributing to the high death toll.
