NDLEA Arrests Trans-Border Trafficker Smuggling 50,000 Tramadol Pills from Ghana

The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Emmanuel Okechukwu, a trans-border trafficker, for attempting to smuggle 50,000 pills of Tramadol (225mg) from Ghana into Lagos.

In a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, it was revealed that the pills were concealed in body compartments of a Toyota Hummer bus operated by a transport company.

The vehicle was intercepted in the Ijanikin area of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway while en route from Ghana.

This arrest is part of a series of successful operations by the NDLEA. In the past week, the agency disrupted multiple attempts to traffic drugs within Nigeria and to European destinations.

The NDLEA is also ramping up efforts through its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) programme.

Sensitisation activities are being intensified in schools, places of worship, workplaces, and communities to combat drug trafficking and promote awareness of the dangers of substance abuse across the country.
