Niger Forms Tripartite Commission with Benin to Address Bilateral Crisis

Niger’s government has announced the establishment of a tripartite commission aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis with Benin.

This initiative follows mediation efforts in Niamey led by former Beninese presidents Nicéphore Soglo and Boni Yayi, signaling a potential breakthrough in restoring bilateral relations and facilitating the free movement of goods and services between the two nations.

The formation of the tripartite commission marks a significant step towards addressing longstanding issues that have strained relations between Niger and Benin.

The commission’s mandate includes developing strategies to overcome current challenges, particularly amid the oil crisis affecting both countries.

However, concerns about the effectiveness of the commission and its proposed strategies have been raised, especially regarding their ability to navigate complex geopolitical and economic dynamics.
