Niger’s transitional government and the Canadian company Zimar have signed an agreement to establish a substantial oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the Dosso region, near the border with Benin.
With a projected processing capacity of 100,000 barrels per day, the new refinery is set to greatly enhance Niger’s oil refining capabilities, supporting the country’s push toward industrialization and economic independence.
At the signing ceremony, interim Prime Minister General Salifou Mody emphasized the project’s alignment with Niger’s vision for sustainable industrial growth, job creation, and increased opportunities for citizens.
The refinery will enable Niger to reduce its reliance on imported fuel and other petroleum products, fostering a stronger local economy.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward Niger’s energy autonomy and is anticipated to stimulate regional development through increased job opportunities and industrial expansion.
