Nigerian Army Warns Against Coup Advocacy Amid Leadership Speculation

The Nigerian army has issued a warning against those advocating for a military coup, labeling such calls as a serious and punishable offense under the law.

This warning came after a viral video showed individuals calling for a military takeover.

In response, the army emphasized that any attempt to incite or encourage a coup would face legal consequences.

In a statement released on Monday by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defense Information, the army also dismissed media reports that speculated about a leadership vacuum due to the absence of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The army clarified that General Lagbaja is on a medical leave and there has been no appointment of an acting Chief of Army Staff in his place.

The statement reassured the public that the Nigerian army remains fully operational and committed to its duties.
