The Nigerian Customs Service in Rivers State has intercepted a shipment of assorted arms and ammunition from Türkiye, valued at approximately ₦4 billion (about $2.6 million).
During a meeting to announce this significant seizure, the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, disclosed that the 40-foot container, with registration number MAEU165396, originated from Türkiye and was under surveillance by the Service throughout its journey.
The interception took place on June 21, 2024.
Reports indicate that the Customs Service impounded the container during an inspection after the importer attempted to bypass protocols. The container was found to contain 844 rifles.
