The Nigerian government is seeking support from the World Economic Forum (WEF) for the establishment of the Africa-Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) project, which will link southern Nigeria to Morocco via Benin, Ghana, and Togo.
This ambitious project, if realised, will effectively transport natural gas through several West African countries, including Benin, Ghana, and Togo, before reaching the Cherifian Kingdom. It is also expected to attract significant investment due to its strategic and economic potential.
Additionally, the AAGP could boost economic development and strengthen energy links between Africa and Europe.
However, insecurity in the Niger Delta region remains one of the major challenges. Nonetheless, there is optimism that the recent gas discoveries in Mauritania and Senegal, close to Morocco, could increase the relevance and feasibility of the project.
