Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has identified corrupt practices by contractors as a major cause behind the frequent collapses of the national power grid.
According to the agency’s investigation, certain contractors have been using substandard materials, leading to equipment failures, power shortages, and recurrent grid collapses that continue to disrupt the country’s electricity supply.
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede highlighted these findings during a meeting with the National Assembly’s Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes Committee.
He expressed concern that, under such circumstances, Nigeria’s efforts toward infrastructural growth remains severely hindered.
Additionally, the EFCC reported that capital project implementation in Nigeria has stagnated at less than 20 percent over the past two decades, underscoring the urgent need for reform in project execution and oversight.
