Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters Confirms The Emergence Of New Terrorist Group In North-West

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters has confirmed the rise of a new terrorist group known as Lukarawas in the North-West, following strained security cooperation with Niger.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the development during a recent briefing, explaining that the group originated from Niger after a coup disrupted joint military efforts between the two countries.

According to Maj. Gen. Buba, the Lukarawas group has started making incursions into northern areas of Sokoto and Kebbi States through routes from Niger and Mali.

Previously contained by joint border operations with Nigerien forces, the terrorists have exploited gaps in cross-border security to access remote, challenging terrains in Nigeria’s North-West, aiming to spread their ideology.

“The terrorists took advantage of the gaps in cooperation between both countries and exploited difficult terrains to make incursions in remote areas in some North-Western states to spread their ideology,” Buba stated.

The Nigerian military is reportedly mobilizing resources to address the incursion and reinforce security in affected regions.
